Activated Charcoal is a 100% natural product, created by the
carbonization of organic vegetable matter (peat). Its capacity of
adsorption in the gastro-intestinal tract is due to its extreme porosity. Definition of adsorption: the adhesion in an extremely thin layer
of molecules (as of gases, solutes, or liquids) to the surfaces of solid
bodies or liquids with which they are in contact.
To better understand
activated charcoal's adsorption capacity in terms of surface area covered,
if you spread 1 gram of activated charcoal 1 molecule thick, it would cover
1000 meters² .
With this in mind, we begin to understand why activated charcoal is well
suited to the adsorption and elimination of intestinal gas, toxic chemicals,
heavy metals, medical residues, food additives, even bacteria.
HISTORY OF ACTIVATED CHARCOAL
The history of activated charcoal dates back to ancient times. Both the
Egyptians and the Greeks used it as a multi-purposed antidote thousands of
years ago. Since the 17th century it has been used for industrial and
medicinal purposes.
Activated charcoal is carbonized matter, which can be obtained from a
variety of primary sources, such as wood, peat moss, coco-nut shells, etc.
These primary materials are converted into their activated charcoal form by
a process of heating under controlled atmospheric conditions. The first step
of the process involves calcination, wherein the primary material is heated
in the absence of oxygen, with temperatures ranging between 600 and 900
degrees celsius. Once the primary material is calcinated, it is heated again
with temperatures ranging between 600 and 900 degrees celsius, only this
time in the presence of water vapor, oxygen or oxygenating gases.
Its vast system of microscopic pores traps toxic
chemicals and speeds their elimination from the digestive system.
Upon completion, the two-step carbonizing process of these primary
materials creates activated charcoal. With its vast system of microscopic
pores, activated charcoal traps foreign substances, in particular toxic
chemicals, and speeds their elimination from the digestive system. This
phenomenon in which activated charcoal is able to adhere to molecular
substances is called adsorption.
Activated charcoal, a 100% natural supplement, is for those seeking
relief from intestinal gas and bloating in addition to removing unwanted
toxins from the digestive system such as food additives, colorants and
chemical preservatives which can accumulate in the gastro-intestinal tract
over a period of time. |
